The god of war and mentor to Archie.
Appearance
Ares is a tall man with a well-built physic, slightly balding head, and mustache. His usual attire is standard Greek attire of battle armor.
Personality
As his title dictates, Ares is a great warrior and uses his gift of strategy in nearly everyday matters. In contrast to most depictions, Ares can at times be rather mellow, insightful, and understanding, especially toward Archie. However, he does recognize the different forms of strength when he acknowledged the abilities of Odie and Neil were the very reasons that the teens were able to win in They Might be G.I.Ants.
Throughout the Series
- Chaos 102: Ares appears when Archie is brought to the school and tests the teens abilities. He is overall impressed by Archie's skills and hails them to match his ancestor Achilles. When Archie expressed doubt over the situation relating to the gods and the Chosen teens lineage to great heroes, Area is surprisingly understanding of how Archie feels and sees how much he follows his anger like Achilles had. Although he tries to advice Archie to learn to control his anger, Ares is unable to convince the teen to stay.
- Field of Nightmares: Having a minor but important role, Ares is instructing the boys on how to use a new lasso specially made for opponents that can fly. His teachings would come in handy when the boys were later faced with a dragon and the rope is how they handled it.
- They Might be G.I.Ants: Ares is leading the teens in combat training when he decides to split them into two teams. However, it is quickly brought up that one side will have an extra person until Neil and Odie become upset at being the extras since their abilities are not as hands on as their teammates. Wanting to prevent any escalation, Ares decides to let the two be their own team. After the teens handle the situation involving Cronus and the soldiers turned into ants, he awards Neil and Odie as the best team and points out how Neil's natural luck and Odie's technology skills are what led the teens to victory.
- Pandemonium: Although he has no speaking lines, Ares is amongst the immortals when the Tree of Immortality is at risk due to Cronus poisoning the tree to wipe out the deities. He is tended to by Odie as the other Chosen teens work with Pan to save the tree and restore it, saving the gods in the process.
- Recipe for Disaster: While he does not stand out in the episode, Ares shares in the condition the other immortals face in being affected by the poor ambrosia. Like the other present deities, Ares begins showing his true age when he is unable to continue being a combative warrior. Fortunately, he would return to normal when Neil, Odie, and Athena are able to get the recipe right.
- Phantom Rising Part I and Phantom Rising Part II: When a mysterious spirit begins stealing the gods powers and turns them into near regular people, Ares is the most vocal of the situation and impatient about finding a solution. As he and others are trapped in a park after having their powers stolen, he is angered to see that regular mortals are not afraid of them and demands that they should be worshipped and respected like they were in ancient times. His angry outbursts draw attention from local law enforcement and they are taken into custody while being labeled as confused elderly people. Fortunately, the teens are able to fix things and the gods are returned to their divine states.

Mythology
Ares is the god of war, and a member of the Twelve Olympians, a son of Zeus and Hera, and the brother of Athena in Greek mythology. Though often referred to as the Olympian god of warfare, he is more accurately the god of blood thirst, or slaughter personified.
Adonis
Adonis grew into an astonishingly handsome young man, causing Aphrodite and Persephone to feud over him. One day while Adonis was hunting, he was wounded by a wild boar and bled to death in Aphrodite's arms. The boar was either sent by Ares, who was jealous that Aphrodite was spending so much time with him, or Artemis, who wanted revenge against Aphrodite for killing her devoted follower Hippolytus.
Aphrodite and Ares
Aphrodite and Ares became lovers during The Trojan War. The sun-god Helios saw Aphrodite and Ares having sex in Hephaestus's bed and warned Hephaestus, who fashioned a net of gold. The next time they had sex, the net trapped them both. Hephaestus brought all The Gods to laugh at the captured adulterers, but Apollo, Hermes, and Poseidon had sympathy for Ares, and Poseidon agreed to pay Hephaestus for Ares's release. Humiliated, Aphrodite returned to Cyprus, where she was attended by The Charites.
The Trojan War
Aphrodite charges into battle to rescue her son Aeneas from the Greek hero Diomedes. Diomedes nicks her wrist through her "ambrosial robe". Aphrodite borrows Ares's chariot to ride back to Mount Olympus. Zeus chides her for putting herself in danger. Aphrodite again enters the battlefield to carry Ares away after he is wounded.
Relationships
- Archie: As the young hero's mentor, Ares knows Archie well and sees his similarities to Achilles. He at times tries to use Achilles' past mistakes to help Archie from going down the same path that eventually led Achilles to his end, especially regarding his emotions and anger. During these times, Ares is understanding and patient toward the teen but still has high hopes for him to be an amazing warrior.
- The Chosen Ones: Like he does with Archie, Ares often teaches the teen's with preparing for battles and honing their skills and abilities. While he is often fierce with their training, he still recognizes when certain members of the team provided a better advantage or strategy that gave a better chance for victory, such as in They Might be G.I.Ants when he pointed out how Odie's intelligence and Neil's luck allowed them to help the military soldiers and stop Cronus' plan.
- Achilles: Although they are never shown together in the show, Aries himself implies that he knew Achilles well and saw how the warrior had problems with his anger.
Trivia
- Although myths state that Ares is the son of Zeus and Hera, this is not mentioned in the series. This also extends to any other relations he has with other deities or mortals, such as Athena, Apollo, and Artemis being his siblings.
