Ladon, a serpent-like dragon which guards The Golden Apples of Immortality with the Nymphs.

Physical Appearance

Ladon has an amphibian-like appearance and is short in height, being a low to the ground dragon. His scales are green and he has glowing light green eyes and orange horns and fins. Ladon has sharp teeth and a tongue similar to a frog that can stretch out several feet and is strong enough to uproot a tree.

Personality

As a beast with a sacred task, Ladon is rather brutish and simple-minded. He charges forward in every attempt to attack but his methods are still effective.

Role in the Series

In Labour Day, Herry is sent back in time to face Ladon during the time Hercules was completing the 12 labors. Herry outsmarted Ladon and unintentionally claimed a golden apple for himself.

Mythology

Ladon is the beast guarding Hera's sacred golden apples that represented her marriage to Zeus. According to Hesiod's Theogony, Ladon was the last of the progeny of Phorcys and Ceto. A scholion on Apollonius of Rhodes' Argonautica, however, cites Hesiod as calling him the son of Typhon, and the same scholion on Apollonius of Rhodes claims that one "Peisandros" called Ladon born of the earth. The mythographer Apollodorus calls Ladon the offspring of the monstrous Typhon and Echidna, a parentage repeated by Hyginus and Pherecydes; similarly, Ladon is called the son of Typhon in Tzetzes' Chiliades.

According to Ptolemy Hephaestion's New History, as recorded by Photius in his Bibliotheca, Ladon was the brother of the Nemean lion.
